Choosing a combat tactic
Change the attack, defense and speed multipliers to the battle plan.
How it works
- The four tactics form a cycle: Crescent Formation beats Encirclement, Encirclement beats Shield Wall, Shield Wall beats Feigned Retreat, Feigned Retreat beats Crescent Formation.
- In a favourable matchup your power is ×1.10, in a weak one ×0.90; the same tactic and the opposite corner are neutral (×1.00).
- The tactic's march speed multiplier applies only to attack and raid marches; scouting, gathering and reinforcement marches are unaffected.
- Military education level = Archery Grounds level + Raider Stables level ÷ 2 + Smithy level ÷ 3 (fractions dropped, minimum 1).
- Example: Archery Grounds 2, Raider Stables 3, Smithy 3 → 2 + 1 + 1 = 4; all four tactics unlock.
- NPC targets pick no tactic, so against them the tactic multiplier starts neutral; incoming NPC raids, however, are evaluated against your chosen defence tactic.
Step by step
- On the Army screen, turn on the Tactical selection.
- Check the required level of military training of locked tactics.
- Compare the attack, defense, and speed effects of open tactics.
- Press the tactic you want to use; check the Active Order sign.
There is not a single correct tactic against each opponent; choose according to the combination of goal and unit.
