How are casualties and loot calculated?
Once the result is known, casualties follow the power ratio while loot depends on the target's stock, carrying capacity and the repeat attack multiplier.
How it works
- Winner's losses = soldiers × 0.40 × (loser's power ÷ winner's power)^0.85; 40% at equal power, approaching zero with overwhelming superiority but at least 1 soldier falls.
- Loser's losses = soldiers × (0.45 + 0.35 × (1 − (loser's power ÷ winner's power)^0.75)); 45% at equal power, 80% in a crushing defeat.
- In a plunder raid (in worlds with the new combat rules) the defender gets +5% power, both sides lose ×0.6 of what these formulas give, and no building damage is dealt.
- Example: a 1,000-soldier army wins with twice the power (ratio 0.5): 1,000 × 0.40 × 0.5^0.85 = 221 losses; the 800-soldier loser loses 800 × 0.592 = 474.
- Total losses are spread across unit classes in proportion to their numbers; the largest class loses the most and remainders go to the largest fraction.
- Loot is taken from the target's warehouse stock: wood, stone and food 20%; iron 15%; gold 10%; the total cannot exceed the survivors' carrying capacity.
- For repeat attacks on the same target within 6 hours ÷ world speed the loot and structural damage multiplier drops 1.00 → 0.75 → 0.55 → 0.35; the window counts from the last attack.
- The Hun faction takes ×1.15 loot on victory; the carrying capacity limit still applies after the bonus.
- A recalled march or one that never fought produces no loot, structural damage or points.
Step by step
- Before attacking, read the target's warehouse stock and garrison from the scouting report.
- Check your army's total carrying capacity on the Plan March screen; loot cannot exceed that number.
- If you plan a second attack on the same target within 6 hours, account for the lower multiplier.
- After the battle, verify the losses, loot and repeat multiplier in the report in the Code Ledger.
Key numbers
- Winner's losses
- %0–40 — Ratio = loser's power ÷ winner's power; against armed resistance at least 1 soldier falls.
- Loser's losses
- %45–80 — The bigger the power gap, the closer losses get to 80%.
- Loot share
- 20% / 15% / 10% — 20% of wood, stone and food; 15% of iron; 10% of gold.
- Repeat window
- 6 hours ÷ world speed — Consecutive attacks on the same target reduce loot and structural damage.
The winning side also takes losses; even with overwhelming superiority at least 1 soldier falls against armed resistance.
